Like so often, the music came first for me: erratic, pulsing, violent in its energy. The imagery is made up of runners mid-stride, mangled faces locked in full effort, limbs at maximum extension, movement that is somehow both chaotic and inevitable. That is what Circus Maximus was, the biggest stage, man and beast pushing to the absolute limits in front of thousands.
